In 2011, the UN International Year of Forests, Purabi directed and produced a documentary film, Forest Rights.
This film is part of her PhD thesis book also titled 'Forest Rights' from Wageningen University, The Netherlands.
It was funded by the International Foundation for Science (IFS), Sweden.
This ethnographic short documentary (see below video) is about the Bhil tribe's access to communal and individual forest rights in Rajasthan, India.
The film examines the role of India's key legal reform - the Forest Rights Act, 2006 - aimed to undo historic injustice on tribal peoples and other forest dependent communities.
The Landing Together films is a follow-up from this above-mentioned documentary.
The idea was to explore what happened ten years after the implementation of the Forest Rights Act, and in general the status of India's communal land rights in indigenous territories.
It subtly brings out the scientific aspects of governmentality and citizenship of indigenous peoples and the current political dogma in tribal India.
The production phase of Landing Together began in September 2015.
Landing Together's first filming was in Rajnandgaon district of Chhattisgarh Oxfam-India.
In 2016, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (UN FAO), Rome extended travel grant to cover states like Odisha, Mizoram, Assam, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.
Purabi independently funded all the cost involved in filming including for the states of Gujarat, Maharastra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
Over a period of twelve months, the film production phase has documented voices of many indigenous communities, including pastoralists and other rural communities living in forests, wildlife reserves, mountains, rangelands, agroforestry and family farmlands.
During filming, the support received from numerous staff of non-governmental organisations and civil societies, government officials, policy makers, students/volunteers, and most importantly our protagonists were overwhelming and encouraging.
