PROTAGONISTS
The film protagonists are real life champions.
Their identity as indigenous peoples is interlinked with their ancestral territories.
Each community shares a relationship with nature that is cultural, spiritual, through the linguistic diversity and in the forms of traditional knowledges.
Some of their traditional practices have a key to many mainstream problems related to food and nutrition security, and agri-food diversity.
Yet, every day they face displacements and are living in despair.
Land displacements are due to extractive industries, monoculture plantations, conservation projects, and conflicts for insecure communal land tenure and individual property rights.
Each protagonist tells a story about their self-identity and forest citizenship.
The majority of these local communities have never seen a video camera before, and for many of them was facing the camera for the first time!
A common thread that binds them together is the strength and fragility in their voices. Even in the state of despair, there is a lot of hope for a better future.
